Living with Cerebral Palsy – Capozziello

This story has been an ongoing project for many years now. It has served as a way for me to ask questions about suffering, and faith, and why any of us are born into this world with disease. It has been a way for me to deal with the reality of having a twin brother who struggles through life in ways that I do not. Nick has recently undergone deep brain stimulation surgery to help curb the effects of his cerebral palsy. Our family now waits to see how or if the surgery will change his life.

    Chris,

I love the images of this essay. You truly have a gift. Your imagery is truly representative of the heart and soul you put into your work and the relationships you have with your subjects. I’ve always admired your style, your work ethic and your images.

I know this photo essay on Nick must come with challenges, as he is more than a subject. He is your brother, your twin, no less. I commend you for taking the time to document his life and for always putting everything you have into your work.

You inspire me and I’m thankful to have you as a friend. Nick is fortunate to have you as a brother. The patience that we have all come to know of you comes from your heart and must be essential to your relationship. As an outsider looking in, I believe that God provided your specific gifts, allowing you to be a blessing to Nick and the rest of your family.

My prayer is that Nick’s surgery, the process of it and your journey through documenting his struggles will draw the two of you into a closer relationship. May you have a better understanding of one another and a greater respect for each other.

I look forward to watching the project progress through the years and to witnessing the powerful effect your work will have once it’s distributed to the masses.

    Love ‘ya, brother,

    Jamie
